Meet Caitlin! Here is a little about her in her own words: 
I usually describe myself as a scientist, ex-gymnast, and lover of food. I moved to Seattle for graduate school in 2014, and never left. When I’m not at the gym you can usually find me chasing after my sports-obsessed 3 year old, standing in line for donuts or out somewhere taking pictures. </p>
<p>How long have you been a member of GLSC? 
Since February 2025</p>
<p>How has being a part of the gym benefitted you? 
I can’t tell which has had a bigger impact, my physical or mental health. The community at GLSC is unlike any other gym I have gone to, and I am so grateful to have a space where people are there to celebrate with me on the good days and give me a hug on the bad ones. Also, I can finally do pullup(s) again! </p>
<p>What is your favorite movement or workout? 
I love anything barbell, my favorite is probably the clean and jerk.</p>
<p>What is your favorite music or pump-up song? 
I love anything with a good beat. I’m currently obsessed with Karol G, and have been playing Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido on repeat.</p>

<p>A little about Ram in his own words: 
I moved to Seattle from Chicago two years ago and currently work at a management consulting firm called Spur Reply, where I help tech companies with their go‑to‑market strategies. Outside of work, I love being outdoors &#8211; mostly hiking and biking. I am still in awe of and grateful for how easy it is to access nature in the area. Coming from Chicago, the first thing that really surprised and delighted me was just how green everything in the PNW is! I’m also a big foodie and enjoy cooking in my spare time. My latest obsession is using curry leaves in just about everything for that extra, unique hit of flavor.</p>
<p>How long have you been a member of GLSC?
I’ve been a member since September 2025, and coming into the gym has become one of my favorite parts of the week!  </p>
<p>How has being a part of the gym benefited you?
Being part of GLSC has definitely helped me get stronger while making steady and consistent progress toward my goals. I do the ID sessions, which have been incredibly helpful for working around previous injuries without feeling held back by them. Shout out to all the coaches who provide thoughtful guidance, are always encouraging, and genuinely invested in helping us train safely and effectively. On top of that, the sense of community here makes a big difference. And getting to see all the wonderful puppies at the gym 100% instantly lifts my mood—nothing better than being able to pet the dogs or give a belly rub in between sets to make even the toughest workouts feel lighter.</p>
<p>What is your favorite movement or workout?
Over the past few months, I have come to realize that I like the power and explosive movements more and medicine ball slams is one of my favorite workouts. I like it for the high‑energy, full‑body workout, and incredibly satisfying feeling. </p>
<p>What is your favorite music or pump‑up song?
I listen to a wide range of music, but my current pump‑up favorite is “Ari Ari” by Bombay Rockers. It’s the kind of track that makes even the last set feel doable.</p>

Meet Laura! A little about her in her own words: 
When I moved to Seattle in 1991, I was on the hunt for the perfect running neighborhood. I landed in Green Lake…and never managed to escape. The pandemic ended the bootcamp I’d been loyally attending for many years, and Kendra (fellow GLSC legend) suggested I give GLSC a try. Fast-forward 2.5 years, and here I am — still showing up, still grateful, and still entertained by the 6AM crew.</p>
<p>How long have you been a member of GLSC?
About 2.5 years — which in gym years feels like both five minutes and a lifetime of wall balls</p>
<p>How has being a part of the gym benefited you?
It’s the best way to start my week and my day. The people are kind, funny, and amazingly supportive — basically the type of humans who make you forget, temporarily, that you’re voluntarily doing squats before sunrise.
 
What is your favorite movement or workout?
I’m endlessly impressed watching Coaches Laura and Hannah casually demonstrate chin-ups and pull-ups while explaining the movement like it’s no big deal. I wouldn’t call it my “favorite,” but it is definitely the most memorable. I use so many bands for assistance that I sometimes worry I’ll accidentally sling-shot myself across the gym like a cartoon character.</p>

Meet Melizza! A little about her in her own words: 
A Brooklyn girl to a PNW one, I’ve called Seattle home for 11 years. When not at the gym, I’m a mom to a couple of humans and dogs (Vanilla Bean and Cinnabon). I’m also a gluten-free baker and sewist. I get a lot of my creative energy out by making cakes and clothes. </p>
<p>How long have you been a member of GLSC?
I joined in May 2025 after seeing a friend post about the gym on social media. I’d been wanting to learn how to weightlift properly for ages. My mind was kinda blown that there are gyms dedicated to it. Duh, Melizza. </p>
<p>How has being a part of the gym benefited you?
I can say that I honestly find the workouts super meditative. I enjoy concentrating on what my body can do and do better. As a result, I feel stronger and more grounded. 
 
What is your favorite movement or workout?
Don’t know why, but I absolutely love doing ring rows. I look forward to getting stronger and hopefully, one day, moving on to completing my first pull-up! </p>
<p>What is your favorite music or pump-up song?
 “Alive” by Sia always puts an extra pep in my step. </p>

A little about them in their own words:
Sean: In 2013, I realized I was becoming a desk warrior with poor fitness and a sedentary lifestyle. I discovered functional fitness and haven’t looked back. There is something special about pushing yourself with others that gets you hooked. I enjoy the pre-WOD conversations, jokes, and awesome coaches like Laura who push me to be my best!</p>
<p>James: I was born and raised in Seattle, with a brief stint in Washington, D.C. I’ve always been into sports and staying active — from basketball and soccer to tennis and long-distance running. After hobbling across the finish line of my one-and-only marathon, I realized I could run far, but at the same time felt prone to injury and one-dimensional.  Eventually, I found functional fitness to get stronger and more well-rounded, and I am still hooked over a decade later.</p>
<p>How long have you been a member of GLSC? 
S: 2018
J: I’ve been a member since 2013, back in the NWCF days. It’s been fun watching the gym evolve over the years. </p>
<p>How has being a part of the gym benefited you? 
S: GLSC has connected me with the Greenlake community, helping me establish a core friend group forged in sweat and WODs.
J: GLSC has helped me build new friendships/accountability buddies, stay consistent with fitness, and blow off stress in a positive way. My best days usually start with the 5am crew at GLSC, so I can show up better at work, with my family, and life outside the gym. The class environment often feels like a sports team practice, and I love the camaraderie and friendly competition to get a little better every day.  </p>
<p>What is your favorite movement or workout? 
S: Handstand Pushups
J: Wall balls or thrusters are at the top of the list… and yes, I actually like the assault bike. I am quad-dominant <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f642.png" alt="🙂" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></p>

<p>Meet Carolyn! A little about her in her own words: 
I am someone who hopes to live to the fullest as I enter my third act. I love to randomly start dancing. I retired from ultimate frisbee and then started again 18 years later. I am a psychodramatist, and I love stories, movies (especially sci-fi), and action&#8230; I have ADHD, which I think is a good thing. I love run-on sentences, being silly (or embracing the awkward), believing that humanity is worth fighting for, I like to feel good in my body, I am a foodie, and I want to be a physically strong older woman so I can stay lively and fun (and nobody will mess with my badass self). I do love to play and am enjoying meeting the people in the GLSC community. </p>
<p>How long have you been a member of GLSC?
I have been a member since mid-November. I’m a newbie. </p>
<p>How has being a part of the gym benefited you?
The gym has helped me learn how to strength train with proper form, and given me some basic knowledge around weights and equipment. I am learning new and valuable skills and look forward to being a stronger ultimate frisbee player (and avoid injury!)
 
What is your favorite movement or workout?
I do love the resilience class&#8230; I like the idea of being super resilient. </p>
<p>What is your favorite music or pump-up song?
 Give me K-pop demon hunters anytime! </p>

Meet Andrew! A little about him in his own words: 
I live just across greenlake from GLSC with my wife and three year old daughter (our second is due in February!).  My daughter loves acting out Lion King these days so I’m always being assigned various roles in those games/performances.  We have an older dog who is slowing down but still enjoys a good cuddle. I teach 5th grade up in Shoreline.  My favorite thing to do is go birding and just generally be outside, I’m actually very obsessed with birds.  To relax I enjoy reading and adding books to my Libby queue that I aspire to read.

How long have you been a member of GLSC? 
More than a year!  It was at some point Fall 2024 that I joined!

How has being a part of the gym benefitted you? 
I feel stronger, enjoy the routine, and especially getting to know some of you wonderful people!

What is your favorite movement or workout? 
Themed Workouts like the recent 12 Days of Christmas

What is your favorite music or pump-up song? Run Baby Run by Casper Babypants always gets my daughter and I moving.

Meet Cory! A little about him in his own words: 
I came to Seattle from Northern California for grad school more than 20 years ago and quickly knew that the PNW would become my long-term home. After landing in Green Lake (following stints on Cap Hill and Phinney), I discovered and joined GLSC (Northwest CrossFit at the time). I had always been active/athletic, but joining the gym was my inaugural exposure to focused weightlifting and strength training. Outside of the gym, I enjoy many of the outdoor activities the PNW offers (snow- and water-skiing, paddling, jogging, hiking, etc.). My working life involves running a consulting practice focused on organizational change and executive leadership transitions in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. My aspirational GLSC goals include building biceps like Zeyab, growing hair like Alex, and cultivating a coolness factor on par with Finley.

How long have you been a member of GLSC?
12+ years.

How has being a part of the gym benefitted you?
 The two things I most appreciate about GLSC are the coaching and the community. The coaching team is stellar &#8211; knowledgeable, helpful, fun/funny, and always full of encouragement. And I’m grateful for the many connections/friendships that I’ve developed with other members over the years. Among all the gyms/studios of which I have been a part, the GLSC community tops the list.

What is your favorite movement or workout?
I’m a fan of the longer Metcon High workouts. I also love the energy of partner workouts. In terms of specific movements, my favorites include deadlifts, toes-to-bar, and headstand pushups.

What is your favorite music or pump-up song?
 Nothing beats working out to Jean Anne’s classic rock playlists!
