✨Member Spotlight✨ Meet Ren & Sid! A little about them in their own words: We are both originally from California (Sid from Sacramento and Ren from LA), and we moved to Seattle in 2021 to pursue new careers in tech (and to escape the heat). We’re a couple of big ol’ nerds, if you couldn’t tell from each of our many tattoos. We met in 2013 at a Sherlock Holmes convention, where Ren was a featured guest artist, and Sid was a blogger tasked with interviewing them. We got married in 2024, where we wore capes and had a “first duel” (with real swords!) instead of a first dance. We’re also moms to a Shiba Inu and two senior kitties. We both love traveling, cosplaying, eating good food, and moderating the Discord server we run together.
How long have you been a member of GLSC? Sid has been a member since January 2023, and Ren has been a member since July 2023.
How has being a part of the gym benefited you? It’s really nice to exercise as a couple! We used to play roller derby and do kickboxing together, and we were looking for a new way to stay active. It helps us unwind after a stressful workday and gives us both a sense of accomplishment. We also love the GLSC community and how welcoming and supportive everyone is.
What is your favorite movement or workout? Sid’s favorite movement is deadlifts because it makes them feel strong. They also like the air bike in a kind of masochistic way. Ren likes longer workouts with a lot of movement variety. Sid has vowed to never try to keep up with Ren during endurance workouts because they will lose every time.
What is your favorite music or pump-up song? Sid has a lifelong obsession with David Bowie and likes most 70s rock, 80s pop/City Pop, and synthwave. Ren agrees, with the addition of loving 90s rock and pop.
