About our Specialty Classes

We are regularly adding classes and class times based on the goals of our members. We currently offer:

  • Strength Series: 6 week series dedicated to learning to lift heavy weights with control
  • Barbell Club: weekly classes dedicated to the skill of weightlifting (clean, jerk, snatch)
  • Bone Building: join friends in lifting and jumping your way in the lifelong pursuit of stronger, healthier bones
  • Resilience Training: combine athletic strength, power, and agility movements into a long and limber lifestyle
  • Legends: join your 65+ peers for a fun workout focused on aging gracefully

What is Strength Series?

This specialty class is a 6-week series of strength-only training focused on the big lifts such as: back squat, shoulder press, deadlift, and bench press. These classes also include accessory lifts to help prevent injuries, while building strength in the supporting muscle groups.

Our Strength Series classes are a great opportunity to dive a bit deeper into details on these foundational lifts, improve your technique, and build measurable strength over a 6-week series.

Strength Series is currently offered

  • Tues/Thurs at 7:00AM, 4:30PM, or 5:30PM
  • Sat at 10:00AM

What is Barbell Club?

The name might sound intimidating, but Barbell Club is a fun group dedicated to the skill of weightlifting, specifically three movements: snatch, clean, and jerk. A few of the folks in our Barbell Club will go to compete in sanctioned events outside of GLSC, but most of the people in the class find it fun and rewarding to develop these skilled movements in class.

Coach Joe and Zeyab break down these movements into their component parts to help you improve your skills, so that you can ultimately move more weight in these movements.

Barbell Club is currently offered

  • Mon/Wed at 6:30PM
  • Sat at 11:00AM

What is Bone Building?

We have heard from a number of you that you’re thinking about not only strength, but also bone health. As we age, and especially for women, bone health becomes more important. Some of you may have even been diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia. This course will be based on the LIFTMOR protocol that has been shown to improve bone health. This class is designed for women over 40, but it’s open to anyone who wants to build bones and muscles.

Bone Building is currently offered

  • Tues/Thurs at 11:00AM

What is Resilience Training?

Our Resilience Training specialty class will combine strength, power, and agility movements into a routine less focused on the number on the barbell, more about moving well in space and preparing your body for reactive movements required for sport, fitness, or parenting.

This class isn’t about PR’ing your deadlift, it’s about feeling great in the real world. If you care more about being prepared for the unpredictable, this is the class for you. Learn to twist and turn while you lift and pull.

Athletic Training is currently offered

  • Mon/Wed/Fri at 11:00AM or 3:30PM

What is Legends?

Coach Alex leads a group of 65+ friends building strength to age gracefully. Build strength to independently get up and down from chairs or the floor. Work on balance to reduce the chance of falls.

Legends is currently offered

  • Mon/Wed/Fri at 2:30PM
