Meet Tim & Jacob! A little about them in their own words:
Tim: Hey! I’m Jacob’s dad. I grew up in Connecticut, attended Syracuse University School of Architecture, and lived in London for 6 years. My wife Charlotte and I moved to Seattle in 1996 after a 14,000 mile road trip around the country in search of our favorite city. We chose the right one.
Jacob: Hi, Tim’s son! I grew up in Seattle, went to college in Philadelphia, and now live in the Bay Area where I work for a biotech company. I love cooking, outdoor adventure, playing sports (baseball, CrossFit, ultimate frisbee), and rooting for the Seattle Mariners.
2. How long have you been a member of GLSC?
Jacob and I attended our first class together in November 2012 (I was stronger than Jacob back then – it didn’t last long), when the gym was known as Northwest CrossFit. Our first workout was coached by Jean Anne – It was called Beautiful Nightmare: 100 cal. rowing, 100 KB swings, 100 push-ups, 100 overhead barbell lunges. Ooof…Needless to say, we didn’t finish.
3. How has being a part of the gym benefited you?
T: They say the best exercise is the one that you’ll do. For me, the magical combination of approachable coaches, ever-changing workouts, and an inclusive community has kept me coming to the gym for 12 years.
J: This gym was foundational to my love for exercise and health. I fondly remember summers spent lifting with Coach Jordan and endurance with Coach Steve.
4. What is your favorite movement or workout?
T: I like explosive movements like high box jumps and rhythmic movements like double-unders. I also like the essential mechanics of a power clean, and how there seems to be an unlimited number of refinements to doing them better.
J: My favorite movement is the snatch. I love the feeling of realized power from effectively catching a heavy snatch at the bottom of a squat. I like workouts structured as batches of sprints, such as n rounds, x movements per round, rest remaining time.
5. What is your favorite music or pump up song?
T: I can appreciate some good, hard-hitting Lenny Kravitz.
J: I like listening to podcasts on health and fitness while exercising.
