Meet Arouna and Anna!
Arouna: I was born in Laos and came to the U.S. (town of 900 in Iowa!) with my family when I was five. Prior to our move to Seattle, the past 10 years were in San Francisco where I worked with a handful of start-ups in EdTech. I’m currently on sabbatical and it’s been a great opportunity to explore the PNW as we get settled in.
Anna: I was born and raised in Seattle and went to UofW. I moved to Minneapolis after college and started my career in finance, eventually moving to San Francisco over 10 years ago to manage a tech banking team and then moving back to Seattle last November. It is wonderful to be home. I love to do anything outside – hiking, paddle boarding, open water swimming, biking and fishing.
Why did you choose to sign up for Individualized Design at GLSC?
Arouna: I worked with a personal trainer in San Francisco prior to moving to Seattle and wanted to continue a program that was tailored to my goals. ID offers a great balance of personalization yet also access to a group setting.
Anna: ID is a great way to get some support from a coach and a personalized plan that I can leverage at GLSC and also on the road when I am traveling.
How has being a part of the gym benefitted you?
Arouna: Increased strength and flexibility certainly and much needed structure to my schedule while I’ve been on sabbatical. The biggest benefit of ID though is receiving feedback from the coaches on form (or lack of)! I love the vibe and energy of the gym and it’s been motivating to be part of the GLSC community.
Anna: I love the flexibility of the ID/Open Gym schedule which is super helpful since I travel for work quite a bit.
What is your favorite movement or workout?
Arouna: Faves include the Landmine Half Kneeling Press and Barbell Curl to Press but I have to say it’s my warm up with the bands. Who knew I’d come to enjoy isokinetic exercises!
Anna: I used to intensely dislike leg days and now I love them (shout out to Zeyab!). Walking lunges and goblet box squats are faves.
