Meet Andy! A little bit about Andy in his own words:
I’m Andy and I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest-Seattle and Portland areas. After a 9-year stint back east, my wife and I moved back to Seattle in 2015.
I am a strategy consultant for Kinetic West—we work with businesses, non-profits, community organizations, philanthropies, education institutions, and local/state governments build and implement strategies to drive impact and improve our communities. I spend my time on system improvement work in both education/workforce and homelessness/housing in Washington, Texas, and Maryland.
I like to ski, am an aspiring baker (I’m pretty proud of my pies), and we have a too-smart-for-his-own-good dog named Watson.

Why did you choose to sign up for Individualized Design at GLSC?
I have never been the most coordinated person. I knew if I was going to jump into strength training I’d need more focused coaching to not hurt myself and reach my goals. I also knew I didn’t want someone watching every single rep. ID has been the right balance of support while giving me the room to figure things out myself.

How long have you been a member of GLSC?
Since September 2023

How has being a part of the gym benefitted you?
I’m a lot stronger than I was in 2023-keeping track of progress over time works great for someone like me who’s always been motivated by gold star stickers.
I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the coaches and my fellow ID classmates. It’s feels like a real community with the small class sizes-I look forward to seeing folks.
More than anything though, GLSC has been great for my mental health. When I’m at the gym I have to be present to get the lifts right. Strength training forces me to separate from the stressors and thoughts of the day. And the added accountability makes sure I show up.

What is your favorite movement or workout?
Push press, as long as so don’t hit myself in the nose 🙂

What is your favorite music or pump up song?
What’s Up Danger (with Black Caviar) by Blackway (Spider-man into the spider verse soundtrack)
