Meet Brian! A little bit about Brian in his own words:
I was born in Philadelphia (Let’s Go ‘Nova!), grew up in Pittsburgh (Let’s Go Pens!), and have been in Seattle for nearly 20 years. I started my career by founding a medical device company that helped stroke survivors relearn to walk. I now incubate new businesses for Axon (The TASER and body camera company for police) outside of our core public safety market. My wife and I have been married for nearly 20 years and we have a 9 year old pittie mix and a 4 year old son. Outside of work and family, I’m an avid skier, mountaineer, and runner, and I spend a lot of time at the University of Washington helping first time founders get their start-ups off the ground. Fun fact: I do a great impression of Kermit the Frog.
How long have you been a member of GLSC?
I’ve been a member at GLSC for about 2 years.
How has being a part of the gym benefitted you?
When my son was born, I was 230 lbs and not in good shape. I made a goal to run 100 miles/month every month that year and lost 45 pounds, but it became clear running every day probably isn’t the greatest idea long term for my joints. GLSC has given me great cross training to help me improve my fitness beyond running and build the strength needed to really enjoy the mountains. As a result last year I was able to complete a decades-long dream of submitting Mt. Rainier and had an epic backcountry skiing season to boot.
What is your favorite movement or workout?
If I had my choice I would go for a long run or mountain excursion over the gym any day, but I think my favorite gym movement are handstands which I only was able to successfully do for the first time a couple of months ago.
What is your favorite music or pump up song?
